Bean was one of the original Rosy Renegades, a charming group of troublemakers with a taste for chaos and community. But when the coop got too hot, the rest had to scatter. Bean stayed behind to watch the coop and, when the time was right, rebuild.
It was meant to be a quiet chapter. Sweeping floors. Tending pots. Letting the dust settle. While digging through cupboards for an old soup recipe, Bean uncovered something tucked far behind the jars. A spellbook. Or perhaps a cookbook written by someone with very different priorities. The pages were dense, hand annotated, and faintly warm to the touch. Bean read a little. Then a little more.
The magic started small. Flickers of light. A kettle that refilled itself. Shadows that lingered a moment too long. Encouraged, Bean followed the book’s instructions beyond the coop and into places that do not sit neatly on any map. The realm of spirits welcomed them with crooked smiles and curious eyes. There, Bean met cryptids, folklore things, half remembered creatures who wore many shapes and were delighted by the idea of trying something new.
Some of them followed Bean home. They learned how to fold themselves into chicken form, feathers disguising fangs, wings hiding antlers and claws. Together they formed a new Rosy Renegades. Stranger, softer, quietly uncanny. The original Renegades are still out there, but this version glows at dusk, communes with spirits, and keeps the nest safe in ways no one quite understands. Same banner. Same spark. Just a little more magic in the mix.
