Chicken.Pet Positivity Thread!

the other day I read @chicken's 1 year anniversary post, and I was really touched by how so much this lil chooksite could have such a huge impact on someone plead emoji it made me think about how the site has impacted me in a lot of ways too!

so I'd like to make a little appreciation post for Ch.P!! what are some ways it's helped you? refining your skills, learning new ones, making new friends, using the site as an unconventional tool - dump everything you love & appreciate about the site here! A heart-shaped chicken

I'll go first:

  • I love that Ch.P was deliberately designed to avoid dark patterns, while also having all the same dopamine hits as a mobile game!
    • there are no penalties for missing dailies, but there's still incentive to check in and do something new everyday!
    • full creative control & community collaboration is heavily encouraged, which already makes the atmosphere friendlier than a lot of popular mobile games IMO.
    • no forced microtransactions, just optional micropayments/donations that reward you with eggs! and let me be nerdy for a second: there's just a lot of upsides to micropayments as opposed to subscriptions & microtransactions! some extra appreciation just for that smile emoji
  • it has actually helped me with mental health ; I'm an ADHDer with a LOT of other strange soups in my brain, and unfortunately bad habits are part of the package pensive emoji but that's why I love Ch.P even more!
    • I'm a HUGE collector & completionist, but this has also led me to online AND offline issues w/ hoarding. Ch.P remedies this by encouraging chicken collection and providing real incentives for it, while also making it easy to part ways w/ your chickens.
(I am still traumatized from the scene in Nintendogs where you give away your dog... and you can only do it WILLINGLY in-game... to know my chooks are safe, whether they're in the Pullet Pool, travelling the world, or apart of another roost, helps a lot with that A heart-shaped chicken)
    • having full creative control also makes it a lot easier; YOU, the player, decide what projects you want to do and at what pace you'd like to do them! so there's no toxic achievement hunting, artificial scarcity, playing by appointment, etc.
    • Ch.P, as mentioned, is quite the dopamine hit - it's a nice way to make the reward system in my brain happy! you can be as crazy or impulsive or late or slow as you want with the game, and there's still lots of good incentives in each and every play style.
  • it is an incredibly fun creative outlet!
    • decorating and modulating my chooks kind of has the same feeling to me as making Miis in Tomodachi Life/Miitopia, or playing with dolls smile emoji
    • I've really gotten to flex my pixel art skills with my pixel chook comms., something that makes me so happy bc I loved web pixel art and korean dollmakers as a kid!
    • I love that you can customize your chook's page, plus make your own sub-pages! flexing some old HTML skills really brings me back to 2012-era Tumblr, and other pet sites that were up around that time
    • in a way, Ch.P feels like a virtual zen garden - and as someone who is learning about Shinto and reconnecting w/ my Japanese side, that makes Ch.P as a meditative tool even more valuable to me :}
  • I love collecting chickens based on fandoms and my favorite media! in a way it feels like I'm keeping a little trophy display or achievement collection for all the things that I love :D
  • in a meta sense, I also love seeing how interconnected every chook is! I've been breeding baby Miku chooks for a while and putting them up on the Farmhouse. now, whenever I come across a new Vocaloid chook, I look at their family history and see they're just a generation or two removed from my chooks. makes me feel like SpongeBob in the Krusty Krab commercial!!!

I love the idea of a chicken.pet positivity thread A heart-shaped chicken It's only been a little over a month since I've joined, but I really love this site already plead emoji

The community here is just so nice and positive. I feel like there's not a lot of places on the 'net anymore that I can visit without having a sense of "this drains my energy and mental resources", but Ch.P is definitely one of the few that just make me feel all warm and cozy.

There's also no pressure to grind for hours upon hours for dailies and games. I can hop on and go through Where's the Chicken, the heists, Wheel of Hue and the exploration map within a few minutes, same with feeding the chickens. On some stressful days it's incredibly comforting that I can get most of the daily stuff done in such a short amount of time. Sure, clucky clicker and petting the chickens is more time intensive, but it doesn't feel like it's mandatory, not sure how else to describe it.

One thing I absolutely ADORE is the Chicken of the Day feature on the front page. I love seeing people's chooks, and it never fails to make me smile to see other's "(Name) of the Day" comments on profiles. plead emoji

Oh also!!

whenever I come across a new Vocaloid chook, I look at their family history and see they're just a generation or two removed from my chooks

When I read that part I immediately RAN and looked at my Len chook - and turns out it's actually a child of your VocaChickens! surprise emojiA red heart That's so cool. Small chicken world!!

I don't even have anything that deep and well-written to say, but I too appreciate this game. Gives me something to do in the mornings before the rest of my brain wakes up that's low-stakes and laid back enough where I'm not altering my sleep schedule just to keep up with it. I used to do that when playing Pocket Camp, and I never wanna return to waking up at like 3 am for a game event.
Also, it combines some of my favorite things; I can make goofy food chickens, I can make game reference chickens, I can make PLANTS, and best of all, I have found out some of my ocs are indeed 'chickenable'. I love customization that lets me put my goobers into new shapes!

I won't get into it and bring the vibes down, but my life has been really hard the past few months. Chicken.pet has given me something to look forward to every morning. I love sitting with my morning coffee while hatching my chicks, browsing the farmhouses for anything I can buy for my rainbow project (I LOVE working on my rainbow chicken project) and enjoying the mini games. It's a great start to my day and it helps set me up right. I check in a few times a day too :) And I echo so many points you made. It's the right amount of dopamine imo. Thx for the prompt A red heart

in spirit of the holiday season, I'm bumping this thread again ! emoji smile emoji I think we have quite a few new users here as well, so perfect time to share some love :D A red heart

There are quite a few character-collecting RPG website out there, lioden/wolven, flight rising, dappervolk, and furvilla to name a few! But none of them are as easy and fun to draw as the chickens on this site <3 Their simple shapes and basic patterns make drawing any chicken relatively easy, even when theyre decorated comb to spur in accessories.

AND THEYRE STILL SO CUSTOMIZABLE- especially with the filters. I love the filters so much <3 I can have a dozen chickens with the same colors but I can still make them completely unique to one another with a few filters. I'm really happy the filters change the color of accessories too.

I want to point out that I'm glad there's no penalty for forgetting to feed your chickens, yes, there's a reward for remembering- you get eggs! But you aren't forced to give up your chickens if you're away from the site for a while. I also love that you can feed other people's chickens if you'd like to, that's cute and wholesome <3

i love the fact that there's no forced daily interaction. (i do it anyways, but that's not the point)

There's no "If you don't feed them every day they get upset and don't do x y z thing which is integral to a b c other things in the game and now you have to feed each and every single pet 100 food points!" or the worst "if you don't feed them every day they DISSAPPEAR FOREVER" which, ew.

There's also so much lovely ability to Collect and Finish and Have and Love and... it scratches so many little itches in my AuDHD brain??? i love it <3333
