Q: What is a Chicken Auction House?
Borrowed from the Neopets "Pet Auction House" trading game, the Chicken Auction House is a game with three phases. First, in the Listing phase, users can add pairs of chickens to the pot. Then once time runs out, it moves to the Bidding phase, where users can offer on the chickens that are in the pot. Lastly, once time runs out, the users who own chickens in the pot choose offers to accept.Q: What does "Spicy", "H&H", "No Pass" and "Free Pass" mean?
What makes this a game is the fact listers are usually "forced" to trade at least one chicken. Half and Half (H&H) and Spicy change when you're forced to trade and when you can pass. In a Half and Half (H&H) game, then you must trade at least one chicken in a pair if both chickens got offers. This means if one chicken got offers but the other didn't, you can pass on the first chicken. But if they both got offers, you can only pass on one of them! In a Spicy game, you must always trade at least one chicken per pair, even if the other one didn't get any offers. (Of course, this doesn't apply if neither got any offers.) There are also occasionally No Pass variants where you can never pass, and Free Pass variants where you can always pass.Q: What is a "forcing" bid?
It would be a little silly if you were forced to swap a 4-digit G1 for 50 seeds just because it went overlooked in the pot. Therefore, there are a few traits necessary to make a chicken a "forcing" bid. There's nothing wrong with non-forcing bids, you can absolutely offer them and they may be accepted! It just means the user is not forced to accept it if they don't get other bids. - The value of
/
/
for most chickens, and 300
for G1s - Chickens must be adults to be forcing (unless G1). - The same person bidding on both chickens in a pair is non-forcing. - Non 1:1 bids are non-forcing (see "How do I bid?") - Any bid that does not contain a valid seed, egg, chicket or chicken bid is non-forcing. ie. Art, reservations, accessories, mods, USD, etc. Some pots also have specific rules so read the top post! (ie. Bids on "Swap pots" are only forcing if they contain a chicken, some pots may only be for G1s or low digits.) Q: How do I list?
For listing you can do embeds, ideally two per line (the br tag is great for this) to show what pairs you want together. Remember, this is a trading game and you may be required to trade at the end. Do not list if you think you'll regret trading!Example:
Listing:
Q: How do I bid?
If the chicken in the pot has a unique name, you can use the name if you want. Otherwise, you can use an ID or an embed. You may bid on multiple chickens with the same bid, but to be forcing you must have enough in your offer to account for everyone possibly accepting. (This is called being 1:1, as you have 1 offer for every 1 chicken you bid on even if they overlap.) For example, if you only have 600
, you could bid 300
on two chickens, but if you bid 300
on 3 chickens it would no longer be forcing. You would need to add a chicken for the bid to be valid. Example:
Bidding on: Anti Sora, Cloud Strife Offer: 300
or a chicken from this roost. On Neopets, people often shorten to something like this: "B: Anti Sora, Cloud Strife O: 300 egg or chicken from this roost." That's fine here too.
Help! Two chickens accepted my offer!
Double-accepting is common in Shuffles, and when this happens, the offerer gets to decide which of the listed chickens they want to go through with the trade on. If your chicken doesn't get picked in a double acceptance, you must use a runner-up offer if there is one. If your runner-up also falls through, you may pass.
Help! Someone won't trade even though I had a valid bid/ghosted me after winning!
Unfortunately, this game runs on the honor system, so the most you can do is mention it to the host so they can be blacklisted from participating in future games. If you are ghosted by the winning bidder, you may pass.
