Thread: Proposed USD earnings charity donation plan

Recently I floated the idea of donating proceeds to charity if the site exceeds a certain amount of earnings in a given month. Here's a more fleshed-out proposal. I'd love to hear from everyone who has an opinion on this, esp. those who spend money on eggs, since this involves donating a small portion of the money you spend to a charity, and I don't want it to go somewhere you don't want it to go! (Amounts are given in USD except where noted)

Main charity: Sunraysia Residential Services

An aged care and disability support charity serving disadvantaged people in a rural area in Victoria, Australia. It has a "Sponsor a Chook" programme where you can name a chicken when you donate $23 (== AU $35 right now).

• Will donate to this charity if the site earns $1,000 or more in a calendar month.
• The first time you buy eggs in a given month, you get to toss a hypothetical chicken name into the "raffle pool". The sponsored chook will be named with whichever name gets drawn (after confirming your permission).

Second charity: Who Gives a Cluck

Rescues and rehomes hens from the egg-laying industry New South Wales, Australia. It also runs education programmes on the subject.

• Will donate to this charity if the site earns $1,500 or more in a calendar month.
• Donation amount would be $23 to match the other charity.

Additional donations

For every $500 we earn above $1,500, we'll donate $23 to each of the above charities in alternating order (without the "Sponsor a Chook" part for SRS).

• e.g. If we earn $2,000 or more, we donate another $23 to SRS. If we earn $2,500, we donate another $23 to WGaC.
