Being patient zero is hard. Before getting infected with bird flu, Nevermore was already relatively unhappy: part of it was just personality, with a preference for pessimistic complaining no matter what (even if they were genuinely content). Much of it could be brought to being forced into becoming a biology major by their parents when they just wanted to be a poet, because “poetry doesn’t pay the bills.” And now they’ve become the first person to fall ill, and whatever joy and hope Nevermore once had is completely crushed. Oddly, sometimes they’ll say… strange things about the flu, but that couldn’t mean anything, right? … right???
