trapped in a nightmare realm (they think it's a video game) where theyre constantly being chased by monsters and have to react accordingly. the monsters often utilize childhood games to hunt. dusk hates these games but they havent figured the way out yet.
Heads up, Seven Up
The Schoolteacher
The Schoolteacher is the most prominent of all of Dusk's monsters. She hangs out around the flooded school, but can travel nearly anywhere. If Dusk sees her coming, he knows to find a desk where he can put his head in his arms and not look up. If she finds him looking, he knows he's likely to be hurt or chased. She often kneels down to look at him from under the desk, just to make sure he isn't peeking.
Marco Polo
The Coach
The Coach stays mostly in the open areas of the gym and sports fields. If Dusk hears him say Marco, he's learned that he has to say Polo back, or the Schoolteacher may accuse him of cheating and reveal his location to the Coach. When he says Polo back, the Coach goes to that location and listens carefully for movement. Dusk knows he's only safe when the Coach is moving.
Red Light, Green Light
The Star Student
The Star Student hangs around the indoor fields and the flooded school. If Dusk hears 'red light', he knows to stop moving and close his eyes. The 'green light' means he can move freely again until he's out of the area, but he has to keep listening for the 'red light'. The further he gets away from the Star Student, the more likely they are to stop him.
Hopscotch
The Playground
The Playground is a unique monster because it's the only one without a humanoid face behind it. Every so often, in any area with a man-made surface covering hte ground, in front of Dusk appears a game of hopscotch. Several of the numbers will be glowing gently, and he knows to avoid them after a series of missteps. If he tries to leave the area, he knows it will alert the Star Student or the Schoolteacher, so he has to toss a pebble and hop across, hoping his pebble doesn't land on a glowing square.
Duck Duck Goose
The Class
The Class at first appears to be several entities, but is actually just one. They tend to appear in the recess and lunchroom areas only, because there seems to be no way of stopping them from chasing you. When Dusk is pulled into a round of Duck Duck Goose, he's always the one 'picking'. He has to carefully decide which one will be the 'goose' based on who he thinks he has more of chance of outrunning. His best bet is usually to pick the student closest to the exit.
